Undead Ultra by Camille Picott *Review & Giveaway*

Welcome to my tour stop for Undead Ultra (A Zombie Novel) by Camille Picott! This is an adult post apocalyptic horror novel and the tour runs June 20 through July 1st with reviews, interviews and excerpts. Check out the tour page for the full schedule.

Undead: a reanimated corpse with a craving for human flesh.
Ultramarathon: any footrace longer than a traditional marathon (26.2 miles).

For ultrarunners Kate and Frederico, a typical Saturday morning is spent pounding out a twenty- to thirty-mile “fun run.” It’s during one of their runs that an insidious illness descends upon northern California, turning humans into flesh-shredding zombies. When Kate receives a desperate call from her son, Carter, she and Frederico flee their hometown and set out to help him. The only problem? Carter attends college over two hundred miles away and the freeways—clogged with car wrecks, zombies, and government blockades—are impassable. Running back roads and railroad tracks becomes their only means of travel, but neither of them has ever run so far before. As pain, injuries, hunger, and fatigue plague them, getting to Carter and staying alive seem impossible. It’s either outrun the undead or become one of them, and for Kate, death is not an option.

I have a serious love for zombies, and Camille Picott did not disappoint. Picture this scene: Red Hat Society ladies turned into zombies. I don't know if you have experience with the Red Hat Society, but I sure do. I used to buss tables for a restaurant, and they would use it as a meeting place. Not my favorite patrons, so this scene was gold to me.

I did have a hard time getting through the parts simply about running. I'm not a runner, and I don't know any of the terminology or gear they use. I found those conversations between Rico and Kate quite boring. Kate wasn't my favorite character either.

Now back to the zombies. I like how she made her zombies blind, but able to hear fairly well. It worked for this story. New and interesting zombie takes is something I'm always up for. They totally made this story too.

I give this story 3.5- 4 stars. I recommend this book to any horror and zombie lovers looking for a new take on zombies. Also anyone who enjoys running in combination with zombies will love it.
